New Florida Gun Bill will not allow doctors to ask questions about gun safety

There is so much in this article that makes my blood boil.  The reason this is happening is fairly obvious, but still.

NRA lobbyists helped write a bill that largely bans health professionals from asking about guns. (Marion) Hammer says she and other NRA members consider the questions an intrusion on their Second Amendment rights.

Asking parents questions about gun safety is NOT an infringement on 2nd amendment rights.  Here is the 2nd amendement as ratified by the states:

”A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

As a parent, the pediatrician asks us all sorts of safety questions.  Do we have the proper car seats,  how is the crib set up, is the house child proofed, that kind of thing.  Is it unreasonable to ask parents if they have proper gun storage?  I guess it is if you phrase it like this:

“We take our children to pediatricians for medical care — not moral judgment, not privacy intrusions,” she (Marion Hammer) says.

Its your doctor.  They better intrude on your privacy.  Its their job.  Have you ever filled out a form at a doctor’s office Marion?  They ask about everything. They ask about sexual activity, eating habits, drug use, alcohol intake and if you have any depression.

I know its all about NRA donations to the republican controlled legislature,

Few of those who voted in favor of the bill spoke out, either in committee or on the floor.

Its depressing that a law has been passed to supress a doctor’s job.  How’s that “less government” working out for you? (via Boing Boing)
